Romance/Getaway Series - Founding Farmers Restaurant

In the heart of DC is a restaurant that many may now know about, but they should. It's called Founding Farmers, and there is so much to love about this place from their food and drinks to their Green thitking. The first thing I appreciate about this place is it's green by design. This means  that beyond the building itself, Founding Farmers is a Certified Green Restaurant™. This includes recycling, high-efficiency water and energy usage, and using recycled paper products whenever possible. For example, the menus are printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks and that water is served in reusable glass carafes with the option of fresh filtered, still, or sparkling Natura water, using no waste-producing glass or plastic bottles at all. Second, everything they serve is cooked from scratch, inspired by a blend of old favorites and new flavors. You can always tell when someone is made fresh; it can't be beat! Third is the wonderful atmosphere. Located just three blocks West of the White House, the restaurant building is a farmhouse with old wood, comfortable seating and beautiful community farm tables where family and friends can gather and enjoy a great meal, and many were when I visited, as the place was hopping. The first floor holds the main dining room and bar area with a mix of booth and table seating. Up the grand stair, framed on one side by the exterior wall of the IMF building, find the mezzanine’s silo-shaped booths and more handcrafted community tables, plus smaller, cozy arrangements for a more intimate setting. Finally, the food was delicious. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, which is always a good sign, and once our meals arrived, we could see why it was so popular. We ordered the Rustic Pot Pie, and the eggs benedict from the breakfast menu. The pot pie was piping hot and full of robust vegetables in a delicious sauce, and the eggs benedict was cooked perfectly. It was a treat indeed!
