Romance/Getaway Series - DC Food Tours

For those of you who don't know me or my husband, you need to know that we LOVE food, and we love to eat. We also love to try new foods when we travel, so DC Food Tours was a perfect combination for us when we were in DC earlier this month.

Here is some background:
Eastern Market is the oldest continuously running food market in the Washington, DC area, still serving its original function as a public market. Eastern Market has been the center of life within Capitol Hill for over 200 years.

The Eastern Market Food Tour will give you an inside look at the legendary market. You will have the opportunity to meet the long standing vendors and taste their specialties which include a variety of local products produced and grown within the Washington DC area.

My Thoughts:

While on this tour we had a chance to try some Vietnamese dishes, several varieties of cheeses (which were delicious), home made Greek baklava, chicken empinadas (which were my favorite part of the tour), prune plums, half-smokes, stuffed grape leaves, and we were sent home with some goodies for dessert (and more). Our tour guide, Elise, was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable, not only about Capitol Hill, but also about the vendors and the individual foods. This tour had a variety of flavors that there's something for everyone. If you want a "taste" for the area then this is definitely the tour to take!
