Birthday In A Box Yellow Party - What a great idea!!!

Sometimes you get something in the mail that just makes you smile, and this was one of them. I knew I would be missing my mom's birthday AND Easter with my family, so I was looking forward to having everyone over a week or two later, just for fun, but decided to kick things up a notch with all these goodies that came in my Birthday in a box. While it wasn't specifically a birthday party, it was still a blast to decorate!!!

Quatrefoil design seems to be everywhere these days, and rightfully so; it's adorable and appropriate for parties of ALL ages!

Yellow is currently my 2 year old son's favorite color so he thought this was the best thing ever to use yellow decorations all over the house. My niece, as you can see, also loved the cups that came in this package. It kept her entertained all through dinner, and some days that's no easy task!

I've thrown a few parties in the past few years - bridal shower, 60th birthday party, son's birthday parties, and I'm always looking for new fun party ideas. Birthday in a box is one of the best I've come across. You don't have to worry about buying things individually or making sure they match. It's all done for you! Take some of stress out of party planning or hosting a party and buy the boxed set. Saved time, money and headache.

With 170 guest rooms and suites, each create an inviting retreat. They provide personal hair dryers to high-speed internet acess (not wireless), premium cable television, and on-demand movies. Complimentary services include the morning newspaper delivered to your door and afternoon tea with sweet and savory treats in the Ordinary Room, as well as exclusive access to the tennis and fitness center. While we were there we tried to partake of tea time both nights, but failed both times. The first night we were there it was 20 minutes late in being brought out, and we had somewhere to be so we couldn't wait, and the second day we got there toward the end of the 2 hours window and everything was gone, so this would be one of my suggestions. If it's going to be from 3-5pm, then it should be out at 3pm, and have enough to last until 5pm.

 

While we were there we had the pleasure of meeting with the Marketing and Communications Manager, Pat Fleshman Burnette, and she walked us around the grounds and shared with us all the in's and out's of the Boar's Head. We also had a chance to meet Pastry Chef of Boar's Head, and the creator of the chocolate masterpieces pictured above, Xavier Baudinet. Xavier began his career in France and came to be employed here in 2010. His impressive background and reputation for innovative, stylish wedding cakes, chocolate creations, and desserts make his creations the finale to any meal you experience here. He also makes his own chocolates, which can be purchased in the gift shop on site or online (and we did!). They make wonderful gifts, especially for Father's Day and Graduations coming up.

In addition to the wealth of activities available and the delicious desserts, The Boar's Head also has a spa on site, offering more than 30 of the finest quality spa treatments for both men and women. They offer therapeutic massages, facial cleansers, and detoxifying wraps, in addition to manicures and pedicures. We had a chance to try their men's facial service and the spa pedicure. Everyone that we dealt with was polite, professional, and very amiable. The last thing you want to deal with when trying to relax are grumpy people, so it's always terriffic when the staff make the experience more enjoyable just by their demeanor and friendly attitude.

While here, there is no need to leave, as they have 2 restaurants on side: The Old Mill Room & Bistro 1834. The Old Mill Room was a former gristmill built in 1834, which boasts a cozy setting for comfy breakfasts or candlelit dinners by the fire.  The Old Mill Room has maintained the AAA Four-Diamond awart rating for more than 20 consecutive years. After visiting here, you can see why. We had a chance to dine here for Easter brunch, and not only did the food taste delicious, but they excel when it comes to presentation. Food items were all labled, so as not to leave any question regarding what you are feasting on, and presented in an aesthetically pleasing way. I regret not getting a photo of the displays. In addition they had some items I had never had, simple as they may be, tequila lime watermelon, balsamic strawberries, filled macaroons in deep hues (emerald green, bright red and deep purple). I loved all of these items, and have vowed to make my own filled macaroons, although not likely to turn out as well as Xavier's.

The other dining option is Bistro 1834, named for the year the original gristmill was build, 1834. vThis restaurant provides a more casual setting for light fare, early evening cocktails, or after-dinner drinks. Their sitting room offers plush leather chairs and a veranda. They had a crab soup, that we absolutely loved...and would definitely order again!

The last item I would like to share is about their wedding and special event options. For weddings, family gatherings, anniversary parties, clas reunions and more, Boar's Head provides undivided attention to meet your needs. They can help with anything from choosing the menu to coodinating the decor. Custom catering packages are tailored to every taste and budget - whether you're inviting 2 or 400 guests. I had a chance to visit the Kent Manor Inn in MD, and it is absolutely beautiful! I was saying to my husband that if we lived closer, I would have wanted to have our wedding here. The drive up to this in is surrounded by corn fields, and it's such a serene setting. Upon arrival you see this large mansion in front of you, which inside is decorated very tastefully with Victorian decor. Out back is the bay and a small creek, where they were setting up for a wedding, so we could witness first hand what goes into preparing for a wedding at Kent Manor. It is the perfect setting for a wedding.

In addition to the beautiful surroundings, they also have a restaurant on site with delicious cuisine. They offer daily complimentary breakfast to guests, but on Sundays guests have the option to partake of Sunday brunch (not included in stay). I had a chance to try their brunch menu, and the options were endless. I especially loved the egg station, and dessert. They had this caramel granny smith pie that was to die for!

And if you are a person who has traveled a few times in your life, chances are you've been kept up by some rowdy neighbors down the hall, but you don't have to worry about this at the Kent Manor Inn. This Inn has an on-site security guard that walks the premises during the evening hours to monitor any parties or loud groups that may get out of control. I loved this!

So if you are looking to get away with that special someone, plan a wedding or honeymoon, or plan a getaway just to relax, this is the place to go!

Visit this reborn, luxurious and romantic Lehigh Valley bed and breakfast inn located on a 100 acre working farm near Allentown, PA, just a short drive from Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore and New Jersey.

Driving up to this area I was beginning to wonder what would be in store for us once we arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Glasbern Inn is not just one building, but seven, and they all have that historic charm, with the modern amenities. If you enjoy architecture, farm buildings, or just relaxing, then this is the perfect place to visit.

Upon our arrival we were greeted at the desk and given a room key. Our room consisted of a large sleep number bed, fireplace, jacuzzi, large screen tv and a stocked refrigerator. After a few minutes we decided to explore and wandered up to the greenhouse, over to the pasture where you can see cattle and sheep on the horizon, and finally down to the in ground pool. One of things that I loved about Glasbern was how peaceful it was. One night I sat in the rocking chair outside our room and watching a storm roll in. The sky went from blue to pink to gray to almost black, but it was beautiful and so serene.

Not only are the grounds lush with flowers and vegetation, but their food is delicious. The original building was converted into the restaurant and kitchen, with the exposed stone and beams adding to this rustic feel, but the food is far from rustic! For the breakfast, that is complimentary for all guests of Glasbern, guests can choose from a menu and also enjoy the variety of the buffet. My husband and I ordered Eggs Benedict, and it was honestly the best Eggs Benedict we've ever had.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this definitely fits the bill with a restaurant on site, nature all around, fireplace and jacuzzi, spa, inground pool, and minutes from shops and attractions. Only about an hour from Philadelphia, an hour from NYC, and 2 hours from Harrisburg, this is the perfect location for a weekend getaway! We had a fantastic time, and are definitely planning to return in the future, and they offer gift certificates so for any of my family members who read this, you may be getting this for Christmas. ;-)

Are you looking to getaway and leave behind all your responsibilities and worries? Are you searching for the perfect location for your beach wedding? Guests will know in advance what their room looks like, and what features it has.

The decor of the Addy Sea B&B is beautiful and very inviting, but that is not all that is fantastic about this B&B. Guests don't have to worry about lugging beach chairs and towels from home, as they are provided for all guests to use during their stay. Guests also don't have to rush to town in the morning for breakfast, as breakfast is served at this B&B. The two meals we had the pleasure to enjoy were delicious, with much to choose from. The first day they offered stuffed french toast, eggs and sausage, as well as toasts/bagels/muffins/cereal and fresh fruits. Their fresh raspberry muffins were my favorite, hands down! On the second morning we had apple french toast, cheesy eggs, potatoes along with fresh fruits, muffins/breads/bagels. Every morning guests have the option to eat in the dining room, on the veranda (or beach if you wish) or in the comfort of your room. It's nice to have options!



Another wonderful thing about this B&B that you are sure to love although it isn’t far from town it’s the perfect location, being a handful of blocks away from shopping, restaurants and entertainment allows for a quiet and peaceful stay if you are looking to relax and unwind during your stay. This location also allows for its guests to walk into town whenever they want a bite to eat, souvenirs to be bought, or nightlife to be enjoyed. The town offers as little or as much entertainment as you would like.



...and there's more... In the summer months guests of the Addy Sea B&B also enjoy FREE lunch consisting of a sandwich, drink and chips. Can you imagine? You wake up, enjoy a home-made breakfast, then wander over to the beach for a few hours, and return to grab lunch then it's right back to the beach. No need to clean off and shower to go into town to grab a bite. It's all right here at the Addy Sea! They also offer afternoon tea with freshly baked goodies, and wine and cheese in the summer months.



Now for those of you who are considering an outdoor or beach front wedding, this may be of interest to you. The Addy Sea offers beach front wedding packages including Lodging, Full Catering, Flowers and Professional On-Site continuous Wedding Consultation, and the B&B is able to accommodate up to 80 people at a reception, which is a perfect size for friends and family to come and share in this special day! My husband and I had our wedding outdoors a few years ago, and we loved it! The sun was peaking through the clouds, the flower petals were falling off a nearby tree and the wind was gently blowing through our hair. If you are looking for a place to have a destination beach wedding then this is a wonderful place to consider! Romance/Getaway Series - Queen Victoria B & B

The Queen Victoria® is a renowned bed and breakfast OPEN ALL YEAR in the heart of historic Cape May, New Jersey, one block from the beautiful Cape May beaches, antique shopping, gourmet dining, and historic Cape May tours.



Cape May is a historic town where the streets are lined with Victorian style homes with bright colors and gingerbread detailing to make them look ornate yet each one uniquely different and beautiful. The sidewalks are peppered with horse hitching posts from when that was the main mode of transportation, and was left in to add to the historic character. As you stroll along the sidewalks, holding your partner’s hand, you can watch the trolleys pass along full of people taking in the sights, a horse-drawn carriage escorting a couple in love for a night on the town, or a family taking a bike ride through the quiet streets of town, seemingly without a care in the world. The town is so peaceful and calm, but has so much charm and character, it’s hard not to fall in love with it.



Thirty-two inviting and romantic rooms and suites with private bath are decorated with period antiques in the Victorian style and tradition of a historic Cape May bed and breakfast. Doug and Anna Marie McMain invite you to experience the charm and Victorian elegance of the meticulously restored and maintained Queen Victoria® Bed and Breakfast. They purchased The Queen Victoria® from its visionary founders Dane and Joan Wells in May of 2004. The purchase of the magnificent property fulfilled their long time dream to own and operate a truly special Bed and Breakfast Inn. I had a chance to meet Doug, and he and his wife truly do a wonderful job in running this beautiful property, or should I say 4 properties. The food is delicious, rooms are impeccable, and service is outstanding.

The Queen Victoria is actually four properties, all equally beautiful, and guests are welcome to visit and relax in parlor in any of the homes, and use the amenities that all of these properties offer. The Queen Victoria offers a freshly prepared breakfast buffet each morning, tea and snacks in the afternoon, beach chairs and towels, use of bikes to ride around the town, and they also have a book and movie library available. Another great feature is the kitchenette in each of the buildings where you have sodas, teas, water, coffee etc. at your disposal any time of the day or night.



We took advantage of almost all of these amenities this B&B had to offer. Our first night there we borrowed a DVD from the library to watch in our room (which was equipped with a DVD player). On the second day there we started our day with a delicious breakfast and then took the bikes for a spin and rode them to Cape May Point to see the lighthouse, and sunset beach to visit the world war two tower and gift shops along the beach. It's about 3 mile bike-ride each way, but all flat roads, so it was a nice leisurely ride.



I was not familiar with Select Registry prior to this trip, but I was impressed with how their reviews are conducted. This registry verifies the quality of the inn or B&B you are visiting. Here is how it works - Select Registry carries out a quality assurance inspection for each of its nearly 400 facilities. This program involves independent inspectors-not employees of Select Registry-with years of experience in the hospitality industry. The inspectors arrive unidentified, spend the night, and evaluate the inn on a detailed point system, which translates into a pass/fail grade for the inn. Inns applying for membership are inspected, as are existing members on a periodic schedule. Not all inns have what it takes to pass the inspections, and this process provides a guarantee to the traveling public that a Select Registry inn is in a class of its own. A recent Internet directory identified over 20,000 "country inns and B&Bs" in the United States and Canada. A select few of those are members of the Select Registry. All properties that belong to Select Registry will have a plaque (pictured below) indicating their membership in this selective organization.



We had a wonderful time at this B&B and would recommend it to anyone!

Romance/Getaway Series - Angel of the Sea Bed & Breakfast

Introducing Angel of the Sea B & B in Cape May, NJ





I am far from a history connoisseur, but I found the history of this Bed & Breakfast to be quite interesting. It started out in 1850 as a "summer cottage" and was built as a single structure, but after awhile the owner wanted an ocean view, so he hired farmers to move his home closer to the beach, using mule and horse power. In order to do this they had to cut the building in half, then reconnect it once it was moved. After both halves of the house were moved to the new location, the farmers discovered that, although their mules and horses were quite adequate for "pulling" the house, they proved totally ineffective in "pushing" it back together. The built Queen Anne towers to fill in the gaps. After it's move, it weathered a bad nor'easter, was used as a dormitory for Shelton College, and finally as the bed & breakfast available today. You can read the full history here, and I would encourage you to do so. It's quite fascinating!


After its first two successful seasons as a bed and breakfast, the Angel of the Sea was acknowledged as one of the Top Ten B & B's in the United States by two national bed and breakfast organizations. It also won the Historic Preservation Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, DC for renovation to historic specifications.









It's obvious why this B & B has climbed in popularity and in notoriety. Not only is it beautifully decorated, but the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. To be quite honest, I wasn't sure if I would love all the lace, flowers and dark wood decor, but I found it charming, quaint and romantic. They don't allow young children to stay here, so the B & B had this calm peaceful air about it, which was greatly appreciated by us "old" folks, and I say "old" because we're only in our 20's, but still appreciate the peace and quiet. One of the things that I appreciated about this B & B is that they have so much to offer from their food to selection of activities to close proximity to the beach. The breakfasts were delicious, served from 8am to 10am each morning. The first day we had a choice of a play on eggs Benedict or French Toast, and my husband and I both had the eggs, and they were very tasty. In addition they had fresh fruit, a warm fruit dish, cereal, fruit drinks, coffee and a moist breakfast cake. On top of this, they offer tea and cookies in the afternoon, and then wine and cheese closer to dinner time. And if you had activities in mind, they offer complimentary bikes to use during your stay, towels and chairs for the beach, board games in their parlor, books and magazines you can read by the fire, and a selection of comfy chairs to choose from on the porch while you sip your wine or tea, or while you curl up with a good book to watch the sun set.





Their rooms range from $95-$315, so it wouldn't break the bank at all to spend a few nights here, especially when you consider ALL that is included! Drop the kids off at grandma's house for the weekend and treat yourself to a peaceful romantic getaway at Angel of the Sea. It's not far from DC, Baltimore, Wilmington, Lancaster, Philadelphia, The Pocono area, Trenton etc (see map below):
