DON'T BUY AMANA PRODUCTS

I am not one to badmouth companies on my site, but I am so incredibly fed up with Amana/Maytag/Whirlpool right now, that I feel it is my job to warn consumers out there about this brand. When you read the post you will realize I'm not being overly picky or critical, I have every right to be completely frustrated with this company.

We bought a brand new Amana dishwasher & oven last Fall, and they both broke within the first year of owning them (while under warranty thankfully). The oven was an easy fix, but the dishwasher was and is an entirely different story. Here's the time line for your amusement:

6/4 - dishwasher stopped working
6/8 - (took a day from work) first service company came out and determined the panel is broken so they ordered a new one
6/25 -  (took a day from work) part came in and they were scheduled to come from 8-12 (which worked b/c we were leaving town at 3), and they called to tell us they had to come from 1-4, but most likely around 4pm, which no longer worked for us. We didn't like these wishy washy times, so we opted to go with another service company who could stick to a date and time frame
7/7 - (took a day from work) scheduled visit with 2nd service company who could pinpoint a time, and we told them what the problem was, and what part we needed and they said they would have the part on the truck . . .surprise surprise, they didn't!
7/23 - 2nd service company was scheduled to come out and install this panel, but we never got a confirmation, so we called the night before and were told the part was back ordered until 9/10/2010, so we called Amana and insisted that they either do our dishes for the next 2 months or they replace our dishwasher completely, which they decided to do (but didn't tell us it had different dimensions b/c it's a newer model)
8/11 - (took a day from work) scheduled to install NEW dishwasher #1, but never showed up. So we called to find out their truck broke down the day before, and never told us or called to reschedule/cancel
8/14 - scheduled to install NEW dishwasher #1, but it didn't fit since it was a newer model - so they took our old dishwasher and NEW dishwasher #1 away
8/16- Called Amana to order a dishwasher that would fit, and Amana didn't make any, so their partner company Whirlpool did, so we ordered a whirlpool that was SURE to fit. We consulted with their specs department to be sure
9/11 - Dishwasher #2 scheduled to be installed but when trying to secure the appliance realized that they don't come with side mounting brackets, so they were ordered by the service individual (our other choice was drill into our quartz counter tops which they weren't willing to do)
9/16 - (took a day from work) Side brackets came in and they came to install the dishwasher, but they're the wrong size (again not surprising with this company), so the service guy called corporate and told us they would be calling us to arrange a NEW dishwasher #3 to be ordered and delivered since this one could only be mounted to our quartz counter tops, which they weren't willing to drill into due to chance of cracking the counter tops.

So now we are left without a dishwasher, with a big hole in our kitchen cabinetry, and don't know if NEW dishwasher #3 will fit (or if they will even order us another, we didn't receive a call yet), if it will come with brackets to mount it to our cabinets. . . or what will happen. Is this ridiculous or what? I wish this was just a story, but it's the truth. So needless to say, I do NOT suggest buying any products from Amana!!!!!!

  1. Awe, I am sorry you have had to go through this! Their products are just not made with the high quality they use to be. I love Whirpool but thanks for the heads up on the dishwasher. I sure hope all works out for you soon!

  2. At this point I'd be sending them a bill for the days of work you lost, also for the price you spent on the dishwasher, and for a sum of $5.00 a day for each day you were without a dishwasher because of this for mental anguish and for payment for your manual time spent washing dishes. If you know a lawyer that for free would let you type up the demand letter on a piece of his letterhead all the better.
This is totally unacceptable and all of the companies involved, the service companies subcontracted with Amana and Amana should be reported to your local better business bureau. File those complaints, it goes on record and may save someone else grief, or help if a class action lawsuit is filed sometime in the future.
