Plumbing Stories

I can not tell you how many times I wished we had a plumber in our family. We have the teachers, the psychologists, the truck drivers, the state road workers, the loan officers, the entrepreneurs, the fitness expert, the vet tech, the nurse, the daycare worker, the office clerks, the human resource professional, but do we have a plumber? No. How did that happen?

We have owned our home for about 4 years now, and during that time our basement has flooded, not once, not twice, but three times. Each time causing such a mess. We have also had our upstairs bathroom pipes leaking through the floor, through the ceiling and into our living room. These are the times where I wish I had a plumber in the family or had someone on speed-dial that knows how to fix things like this.

It is not cheap to have a plumber come out to fix problems. They charge you just to walk through the door, then there's the hourly rate, plus the cost of parts. It's crazy. There have been times where my husband has tried to fix things, like a broken garbage disposal, and he has had success. However, there have also been the times where he has tried to fix issues such as installing a back up sump pump, and has not had success. Plumbing is such a specialized field, that most lay people can not fix the big problems for themselves.

Don't get me wrong, my husband loves a good challenge, and sometimes I do too. Home ownership can be one big challenge. Before we became home owners we didn't know the in's and out's of steaming,  scouring and stripping wallpaper, sanding, cleaning, priming and painting walls,  removing the old and installing new outlets, disconnecting the old and installing new dimming light switches, running speaker wire through the floor from the basement to the first floor, attaching a mailbox to a solid brick wall, building a brick wall around the garden and so much more, which we now know how to do. Sometimes practice makes perfect, and sometimes trying something new just creates a big mess. So when life’s challenges become life’s messes it may be best to call an expert to help out before things get any messier. Or if you want to skip the headache and have it done right the first time, call the experts first.

If you live in the Santa Rosa area you could always call upon Ben Franklin Plumbing for plumbing repair. They’re happy to help.
