Laura Frantz credits her 100-year-old grandmother as being the catalyst for her fascination with Kentucky history. Frantz's family followed Daniel Boone into Kentucky in 1792 and settled in Madison County, where her family still resides. Frantz is the author of The Frontiersman's Daughter and currently lives in the misty woods of Washington state with her husband and two sons.

My Thoughts:
This book captured my attention in the first few chapters as we got to know timid and sweet Morrow Little. At first she was pictured as the type of woman who was made of porcelain and could break at any moment, with all the turmoil she had experienced in her life with losing her mother, sister and possible a brother. The story was very captivating as new characters were introduced like Surrounded by the Enemy, Captain McKie, Lizzy, and Red Shirt. I found myself empathising with Morrow as she wrestled with her feelings of anger and bitterness toward the people group responsible for the deaths of her family members. I can only imagine how hard it is to forgive someone for a grievous wrong that's been done. The story shows Morrow's true strength and character, and commitment to what she feels is right, and the author did a beautiful job in building the characters and the emotion behind the characters and their tough decisions. Definitely a book to add to your reading list!
