Wicked Broadway Musical - Review

WICKED, 'Broadway's biggest blockbuster,' and when it played Philadelphia in 2006 and 2007, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 20 major awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony® Awards, 'WICKED has every piece of the Great American Musical, and even defines the genre' (The Philadelphia Inquirer). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One—born with emerald green skin—is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for 'the most complete, and completely satisfying, new musical in a long time' (USA Today).

Last year I went to see Wicked on tour for the very first time at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and I was absolutely blown away. The show is about what happened between Glenda and Elphaba (the wicked witch) before Dorothy entered the picture. I expected a light play with some comedy for children, but it was so much more. By the end of the musical I was moved to tears. I really didn't expect to be so moved by the show and the music, but it was so powerful I couldn't help it. The preformance and actors were incredible, and I can't say enough positive things about this show.

After the show I bought the soundtrack and absolutely love it. I listed to it all the time. My favorite songs are "Defying Gravity" and "Dancing Through Life." Idina Menzel, the original Elphaba, sings some of the songs on the soundtrack, and I have been a fan of hers since I saw her in "Rent" the movie. Her voice is amazing.
I would strongly encourage anyone who is on the fence about this show to buy tickets and go. They'll be back in the Philadelphia area this winter.
I think I can officially say that I am now hooked on broadway shows, and can't wait to see more!

Check their site for dates and times that Wicked will be in your area.
