Movie Summary(taken from the movie's website):

At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules.Growing up, Catherine Holt always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter...just like her daddy. Now, after seven years of marriage, Catherine wonders when she stopped being "good enough" for her husband. Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks. As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment: "The Love Dare." Wondering if it's even worth the effort, Caleb agrees-for his father's sake more than for his marriage. When Caleb discovers the book's daily challenges are tied into his parents' newfound faith, his already limited interest is further dampened. While trying to stay true to his promise, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again. He finally asks his father, "How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?"When his father explains that this is the love Christ shows to us, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to love God. And with God's help he begins to understand what it means to truly love his wife. But is it too late to fireproof his marriage? His job is to rescue others. Now Caleb Holt is ready to face his toughest job ever...rescuing his wife's heart.

MY REVIEW:

My husband and I went to see this movie when it was out in the theaters and we absolutely loved it. We have only been married for about a year, but we both witnessed unhealthy marriages growing up. My parents had a relationship full of arguing and my husband's parents didn’t stay together because of violence and abuse. This movie shows you the lows that marriage can reach, but it offers an inspiring way to dig marriages out of this ditch that so many couples fall into. I know of people who said "If I had seen this when my marriage was in trouble, it might have saved our marriage." I also know of several individuals who are doing the "love dare" challenge now, in an attempt to improve their broken relationship with their spouse.

The underlying theme in the movie is "Never leave your partner behind." It is a great message because it applies in the world of firefighting and in the world of relationships and marriage. It is an emotionally packed movie that both men and woman will enjoy.

The acting is not the best, but that is because the creator/producer used people from their home church to create this film, but the message is inspiring.

I strongly suggest seeing this movie. It will leave you a changed person.

  1. Hello Melinda! Nice to meet you :) I am so excited about the movie Fireproof. I haven't seen it yet but this Sunday my hubby, another couple and myself are going to watch it. The four of us are reading the Love Dare together. We're doing it like a life group (care group, cell group). We're taking one day and spreading it out for a week. It's been very encouraging and a bit humbling. I will be back after Sunday to share!
