With Every Letter by Sarah Sundin
As part of a World War II morale-building program, flight nurse Lt. Mellie Blake begins an anonymous correspondence with Lt. Tom MacGilliver in North Africa. As their letters crisscross the Atlantic, they develop a deep friendship. But when they're both transferred to Algeria, will their future be held hostage by the past---or will they reveal their identities?
MY THOUGHTS:
I have been a fan of Sarah Sundin since I first read a novel by her. I LOVE historical fiction novels that draw you into a different time and different place, and that was the case here. I felt like I was working alongside Mellie and her friends to care for wounded soldiers, and taking part in the letter exchange. I loved watching her transformation from shy, ostrasized and insecure to being bold, confident and well-loved. Many people can relate to not fitting in, so I really enjoyed her character, and this is not your typical Christian romantic fiction novel, as I was not sure how it would end. Mellie wavered back and forth between revealing her identity and keeping it secret, and I was hoping she would end up with the guy, but you'll have to read the book to see how it ends. I really enjoyed this novel, and can't wait to read more by Sarah Sundin.
PS I also loved that she added the animal-factor with Sesame the messenger dog :)
