1. Exercise: Going to the gym three or four times a week, or going for a run, is scientifically proven to make you look and feel great. Sure, getting yourself up and out of bed for that early morning work-out can be a challenge, but the people you meet at the gym or that running partner you found online will become all the additional motivation you need.
2. Be honest: Nobody likes a liar, and how would you feel if you were lied to yourself? Being honest with yourself may be tough, but at least you can move onwards from the mistakes you’ve made and live a better, happier life.
3. Be open to friendship: Conversation builds bridges, and although thinking that you can be friends with everybody might seem unrealistic, simply talking to the person sitting next to you can lead to better and
4. Face up to your problems: It’s so much easier to try and forget about the mistakes you’ve made, but the problem is you might simply make the same mistake again. Try taking the time to think about where you went wrong and how you can avoid it if it happens again; even if you are embarrassed or can’t see any way around it, it’s worth making the effort to avoid the same problems in the future.
5. Realise what matters: So much in modern society is taken for granted purely because we can easily get our hands on it; but so many people have don’t have the luxuries that you might be able to afford. There’s no need to feel guilty about having them, but appreciate them for the luxuries they are and you will find that some things become that much more rewarding.
6. Set yourself goals: It’s always nice to look back and be proud of how far you have come, so make sure you allow yourself the chance to do so. Challenging yourself to change your life completely right away isn’t impossible, but it’s a lot harder than a series of small manageable goals that you can achieve every day; the trick is making sure you don’t relax, so keep pushing yourself to go that little bit further in the direction you want to go.
7. Don’t be afraid to fail sometimes: Nobody likes failing, you feel like you have let yourself and other people down; if you keep falling short then chances are you are pushing yourself too hard. Don’t get hung up on it and challenge yourself in more realistic and less difficult ways.
8. Explore yourself: Nobody is perfect, to think so would be pretty self-centred; but there’s nothing wrong with being proud of the good parts of your personality. Take a good long look at yourself and recognise the parts to be proud of.
9. Open up to other people: We are social creatures, and sometimes it helps to share our goals with other people, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Different people can help in different ways, and trusting them to make a positive impact in your life is the hardest part in what could be an easy way to a brighter future.
10. Think for yourself: It sounds pretty stupid to say this at the end of an article giving you advice, but thinking for yourself is a sure fire way to feel better about yourself. So sure, if you think some of this doesn’t apply to you, that’s ok, there’s no right or wrong way to go forward; whatever you do, just make sure it’s right for you.
