About this book: For John and Laura Foster, what began as a fairytale honeymoon in 1857 aboard the steamship SS Vandervere soon becomes a nightmare. A terrible hurricane strikes and the grand ship is lost in the murky depths of the Atlantic. Laura finds herself rescued with the other women and children, but how can she feel anything but despondent without her groom? Suspecting her John is gone but still daring to hope for a miracle, Laura must face the possibility of life alone.
My Thoughts:
Ever since I read The Homecoming by Dan Walsh I have been a huge fan of his. His books instantly capture my interest and attention, which was the case with this book as well. Right off the bat you can tell that Laura and John are strong individuals as the handle each other amidst the horrible situation they find themselves in. I was particularly interested in the relationship between Laura (a passenger on a ship) and Micah (the captain's slave aboard the ship). They had a deep respect for each other, and I found myself rooting for Micah throughout the book because of his character and integrity that was unparalleled. Even Laura's character said that second to her John, Micah was the most admirable man she's ever known. This book made me cry, but in the best possible way. I cannot wait to read Dan Walsh's next novel in the Fall!

Thank you so much for reviewing this book. I was completely unfamiliar with this author, and I now plan to read this as well as his other books. It sounds exactly like the kind of books I enjoy.
